You are most welcome:). Probably not as long as 2 years, although I do think that the lessons will reverberate onwards throughout our lives. Hopefully a time will come when we will be able to be grateful for all that we learn from our grudges. Happy grudge processing…

Comment on How to Negotiate for Life by Nina https://goodnbadhowto.com/how-to-negotiate-for-life/#comment-2 Sat, 01 May 2021 13:21:49 +0000 https://goodnbadhowto.com/?p=330#comment-2 In reply to Elizabeth.

Yes, I think there is definitely an element of manipulation going on. Voss says so himself. This is why he emphasises empathy, as well as making human connection the priority in any negotiation. It acts as a counter-weight in a sense. Where does it lie on the spectrum of authentic and transparent versus manipulative communication? I would say it lies more towards the transparent side while acknowledging that as soon as we are strategic in getting what we want, manipulation is there.

I was struck your saying “he doesn’t address what to do when the person you are negotiating with has also read the same book. Essentially, they can see through what you are doing and have been inoculated against your technique.” This sounds like the technique is kind of manipulative, rather than really authentic and transparent communication? Where would you put it on that spectrum?
